Berkeley Builds is an annual social innovation designathon on UC Berkeley’s campus that invites students from all academic disciplines to implement sustainable solutions for non-profit organizations that tackle social issues both domestically and internationally. Over the weekend, interdisciplinary teams of students will work directly on problems faced by our non-profit partners, and winning teams often go on to implement their solutions with their non-profit after Berkeley Builds. Berkeley Builds is a collaboration between a diverse group of student-run organizations at UC Berkeley focused on a range of topics, from poverty alleviation to technology to non-profit consulting, and we are united by our vision to bring Berkeley students together to address real problems.
Any UC Berkeley student, regardless of major or prior experience, can attend Berkeley Builds 2017.
Nope! Admission is free and includes food, workshops, and swag!
The application is due on April 4th!
Berkeley Builds 2017 will be at Sutardja Hall, UC Berkeley. Your team will work in our event’s design space, which includes Blum 100 and Blum 101.
Other than a personal laptop, participants aren’t required to bring any materials to Berkeley Builds. We will offer markers, whiteboards, snacks, pens, pencils, and other tools at the event for your teams to use!
Each team will have a maximum of 4 people, and we strongly encourage applicants to apply as interdisciplinary teams in order to be successful at this event. If you do not have a team but wish to join one, don't worry! We will have a mixer at the beginning of the event where you can form teams with other students assigned to the same non-profit.
